With a new record out, the time may be right for Michael Damian's return to Y&R!

It's nine o'clock in the morning, an unthinkable hour for a rock star to be up taking and making calls. But Michael Damian, best known for his 18-year run as Danny Romalotti on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, has been up since six, doing interviews with radio stations across the United States. "I'm sound awake," jokes Damian from a phone interview in his Los Angeles home. The rock star-turned-soap star has turned rock star again with his new hit single "Shadows In The Night."
Remembrance
The last time Damian was rocking at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 was in 1989 with his number-one hit "Rock On." Damian's newest single, which he was inspired to write after the tragic events of September 11, is quickly climbing the charts on it's way to a top hit. "It's about surviving and never giving up," explains the song's creator. As with every creative project Damian does, it is a family affair. Brother Larry co-wrote and produced "Shadows In The Night," while Damian's other brother Tom engineered and mixed the soundtrack.
Janeen Best, Damian's wife and partner in Damian Entertainment, serves as his producer on the music video. At the time that Update spoke to Damian, he was in the final stages of editing the video - which he also wrote and directed - before heading off to New York City to present it to MTV and VH1.

Catching Up With
Michael Damian

"Shadows In The Night." marks the first music release for Damian in several years. During this time, he and Best had been living in their Paris home, where Damian was busy working on his new album, which is to be released this summer. He was also writing, directing and producing the pilot for RED EYE, a one-hour action series that is currently being negotiated for worldwide distribution. Until he gets the green light on RED EYE, Damian intends to focus all of his attention on his music career. "I wanted to

make sure when I released a record that I actually give it the ample time and commit 100% to promoting it and performing live. To do that I had to make a major commitment. This is the perfect time for it."
Genoa City?
Damian hints that this may also be the perfect time for him to return to Y&R. "The doors are open" Damian confides. "I talked to one of the writers recently and was told they were working on a couple of ideas. It was a very nice talk. They wanted to know how I felt about coming back and I said, 'great, go for it!' As long as I'm not on the road promoting the record or shooting a new series, I think it would be a blast."
The storyline certainly lends itself to a Danny Romalotti homecoming as his ex-wife Christine now finds herself divorced from Paul, and his other ex-wife Phyllis is battling to save her marriage to Jack. And let's not forget that Danny was the love of Chris' life back when

she was known as Cricket. Damian says that viewers have lots of ideas as to how to bring Danny back to Genoa City. "Fans write to my website daily. They tell me they feel like we left them hanging. They need some resolution and closure."
The Future Is Bright
In the meantime, Damian is keeping quite busy as he gears up for the summer release of his next album - yet untitled- on the Modern Voices record label. Though he will be traveling extensively, Damian intends to stay stateside until the fall.
In October, he and Best will return to their Paris home for some much-needed R&R.... though, hopefully, not before he gives his soap fans a healthy dose of some much-needed Y&R!
